New single – Butterfly – released today!
We have been working so hard to get these singles out – I know we’re late – but, they’re ready now!
I’m so excited to be releasing the first single. We’ve had two projects on the go for the last 7 months: 1) songwriting for the 3rd album, and 2) songwriting for the monthly singles. Both projects were completely different; which was GREAT as it allowed all the songs to flow out of me that I felt like writing. If the tune turned out not suiting the album, it was next in line to try out for the Monthly Singles! Its been so much work, but so awesome at the same time.
Butterfly is a tune that I wrote with guitarist, Nathan Crook, about 4 years ago. He and I had talked about writing tonnes but hadn’t created anything yet. We were rehearsing for a show at my house when Nathan said he had a phrase stuck in his head… “Heartache’s just a word you can feel, confusion’s easier to get”. Well, of course I picked up my nearest journal and wrote it down… then the whole song flowed out with some killer chord progressions to accompany it. (And you can hear where Nathan’s killer line came into play) We were so excited to write our first tune together!
Over the next couple months we were able to perfect it, and performed it a few times at some local shows as a simple, acoustic number. The tune even got recorded in Winnipeg, at the studio, as a scratch idea for my first album – Journals. It didn’t make the cut, and after that it never resurfaced again… until this last February when I was back in Winnipeg writing and demoing for the 3rd album with Jordan. I was so pumped when he said he had got an idea for it, and there it was: he had created the awesome recording you hear now! It was totally different to anything we had ever created but suited the song so well!
Don’t be afraid of the new sound. 
All the singles are completely different to one another, so the next one (releasing July 1st), is going to be completely different again! (You might recognize that one, too) And the album is a new concept as well: allowing more acoustic instruments and a LOT of voice.
